Ever since I’ve started my little collection of vintage photos, I’ve been hooked on surfing flickr to check out other people’s cool finds!

The Lipstick Diary is a collection of photos of a lady with… intense lipstick.

I bought the cd! How excited was I about this?
‘Stand outside HMV and rip open the packaging’-excited.
Allow me sometime to digest the awesome-ness of this collection. The Crescendos! Sonny Bala and The Moonglows! Naomi and The Boys! Practically the whole Philips roster (ALMOST) is represented on this cd! I’ll listen to all 100 songs [...]

100 song, 5 cd box set! All 1960s Singapore music!

Universal Music Singapore is releasing a 5cd boxset of 1960s Singapore songs today! 5 cds! 100 songs! All from the Phillips label, which was one of the more illustrious labels in the 1960s local music scene.
I’ll be buying my copy over the weekend, and will share some of my favourite tracks here.
And because I’ve been [...]

exciting news coming up…

I don’t think I’ve posted this song before. A very dancey tune from Rita Chao, Singapore’s 1960s pop princess.
Rita Chao – Diamond
And I’ll have some exciting news on a brand new local 60s music compilation cd release, in the next few weeks. I even contributed two tracks from my vinyl collection! Hopefully this will score [...]

Who is Diana, and who is her fabulous backing band? She is one of the mysterious 60s girl vinyls I’m so fond of picking up! I’m guessing she is local, or from Malaysia at least, because this is a local pressing. And the band sounds along the same twangy instrumental vein as Polar Five.
Diana [...]

I know everyone there worked hard and there was potential. Sigh. =( Sad, but have to STAY STRONG! I’m sure [...]

left of the dial

It’s back to the 90s alternative with this post. My latest find whilst trawling the Sembawang sale – Singapore’s 1994 indie rock compilation, Left of The Dial. I remember listening to the djs plug this album on perfect 10 back when the cd was first released. But of course I didn’t buy it then because [...]

beyond hippy hippy shake

In my mind, the Swinging Blue Jeans are forever immortalized as that British Invasion band with the hits – Hippy Hippy Shake, Good Golly Miss Molly and Shake Rattle and Roll. Not exactly a great thing, because with the exception for Hippy Hippy Shake, I find the other two songs extremely grating. And that’s a [...]

music geekery and shopping news

Readers from Singapore would want to take note that the Sembawang music store chain is having a massive sale – 50% (almost) storewide discounts! Across cds and dvds (plus vcds). I’m not kidding. So far I’ve combed two branches – the Funan one and the one at Lot 1, and have come away with:
1. Nick [...]
